The new Microsoft operating system, Windows 8, has been available to the public for almost a month now which begs the question: to upgrade or not to upgrade?

n the November issue of Journal of Accountancy, CPA J. Carlton Collins provides some excellent information on both the advantages and disadvantages of Windows 8. Collins also points out the discounts currently available for those who decide to upgrade before January 31, 2013 ($39.99 for qualifying consumers), after which the price is expected to be five times higher. Caution: Once you upgrade, the option to go back to, say, Windows 7 is an exhaustive and laborious process.
